The Great Park Coalition loved connecting with community members and advocates for democracy at the No Kings rally in Palisades Park, Saturday, March 28th.
The No Kings event was part of a nationwide day of nonviolent action, with gatherings taking place across the country. In Santa Monica, Palisades Park was filled with energy, purpose, and a shared commitment to civic engagement.
At the Democracy Fair, we shared the work of the Great Park Coalition and presented the Santa Monica Airport Conversion Project Draft Framework, shaped by years of community engagement and input. The Great Park Coalition shared a table with the Santa Monica Democratic Club, engaging residents in thoughtful conversations about the future of our public land.
Throughout the day, GPC walked rallygoers through the Draft Framework, exploring likely uses across the site and explaining how the eight districts work together to form a cohesive vision.
Many of those conversations led to new community members signing up as advocates, as people connected with the vision and wanted to stay involved. Sharing the Draft Framework in this setting helped people encountering it for the first time understand what’s possible, including expanded natural areas and biodiversity, new recreation and sports opportunities, arts and cultural spaces, increased tree canopy and heat mitigation, and places for gathering and community life, while underscoring the importance of protecting the full plan shaped through two years of community engagement. Every conversation matters. Every acre counts.
The Great Park Coalition now includes nearly 1,100 individual advocates listed on our website, alongside 82 supporting organizations, all advancing the mission of a Great Park that reflects community priorities and will benefit the entire region for generations to come.
The Democracy Fair, hosted by the Santa Monica Democratic Club (a supporting organization of the Great Park Coalition) brought together a wide range of civic organizations and community members.
